At our recent National Assembly, ESN Hungary was honored to welcome representatives from the International Relations Office (IRO) of the University of Sopron (UoS) as special guests — a significant step toward expanding our network. Although UoS does not yet have an active ESN section, their attendance here reflects a genuine interest in joining our community and supporting the “Students Helping Students” philosophy.
During the assembly, we (ESN Hungary) shared our vision: through local ESN sections — run entirely by volunteers — we offer exchange and international students vital support in social integration, practical guidance, and cultural orientation. This includes organising welcome weeks, cultural events, excursions, peer mentorship, and social activities to help newcomers feel at home. We are also proud to support outgoing students from our member universities as they prepare for their own mobility periods abroad.
We believe that by partnering with IROs such as UoS, ESN can further its mission of creating inclusive, supportive environments at institutions across Hungary. Our workshop at the assembly highlighted the core elements for successful cooperation: open and clear communication, regular personal meetings to build trust, mutual respect between IRO staff and student volunteers, timely planning, and a reliable budget for activities.
With enthusiasm and commitment from both sides, we look forward to working closely with interested students at UoS — providing guidance, resources, and a corridor of support to establish a new ESN Section of Sopron. We are confident that such a development will enrich the international experience at UoS, strengthen mobility, and give many incoming and outgoing students access to the full support network that ESN represents.
